Bathroom Talk

All the dirty details no one tells you about!
  1. It feels really strange to potty after giving birth!  Especially the first post-birth poop.  Many women feel better pressing a hand against their labia and vagina while pooping.  A bidet is very helpful - the cold water will feel refreshing (but get one with a gentle flow)
  2. The first few days after birth will be very messy.  If possible, have a dedicated bathroom just for you to use.  After you’re feeling better you can clean things up.  Put some towels on the floor before the birth.  Take everything out that you don’t want to mess up - nice floor mats, fancy hand towels, etc.  Stock up the bathroom with a variety of comfy clothing, underwear, and pads.  Adult diapers are easier while your blood flow is heavy.
  3. A lot of women report a strange vaginal smell for a couple months after the birth.  Like a very strong period smell - even after you stop bleeding.  Consider having a dedicated set of underwear for postpartum use, and “strip” them a few months after the birth (Grovia makes a good product for this called Mighty Bubbles).
